BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIES

- ¼ c. shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2tsp. salt
- ½ c. coarsely chopped walnuts
Preparation Method :
- Melt butterscotch pieces and shortening in double boiler over hot water.
- Remove from heat and stir in brown sugar; cool 5 minutes.
- Stir eggs and vanilla into butterscotch mixture to blend thoroughly.
- Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- Blend into batter.
- Stir in nuts.
- Spread in greased 13 x9x2" pan and bake in moderate oven (350°) about 25 minutes.
- Set pan on rack.
- While still warm, cut in 2" (about) squares (cookies are especially good warm from the oven).
Makes about 2 dozen brownies
